The present iconography - saint facing, as opposed to mounted slaying the dragon - is often associated with his secondary feast day, Nov. 3 (Nov. 16 by Julian calendar). This date traditionally commemorates the transfer of St. George's relics from Nikomedia to Palestine, and the associated restoration of the church dedicated to him; it is a popular celebration in some parts of the world - like in Serbia, where for certain families it takes the form of a patron-saint feast, known as "Slava Djurdjic".
