One of several Byzantine emperors of Armenian origin, Philippicus was instrumental in the overthrow of Justinian II following the reign of terror that characterized the latter's second rule. However, unorthodox religious views and foreign policy setbacks led to his rather quick deposition in turn. Present specimen is ex-Hunt (#218) and Fehlhaber collections.
