One of the few types that can be reliably related to the begining of the Christian era, in both the time and space. Of course, modern scholarship places the birth of Jesus of Nazareth sometime during or justy prior to 4 "BC", as that marks the established end of the reign of Herod the Great, a key figure in the Christmas narrative of the Gospels, but the present coin would have still circulated in the time and place of Jesus' childhood, and perhaps even his later ministry.
