A scarce and attractive large bronze from the later Roman period, with a finely styled portrait of the great conqueror, who's appearance here is probably as much a nominal homage paid to the celebrated king's birthplace province as it is a suggestive device of wishful 3rd century Roman emperors. Edge hole, apparently from now inactive corrosion, away from main devices. Scarcer variant with cista mystica opening right, and legend of "twice" Neokoron (province of Macedon, though presumably struck in the city of Beroea).
