A generally scarce type, here in a possibly unpublished version with the lion's head facing left. The attribution of these types to Side is not certain, and the Pisidian city of Selge is sometimes cited as an option (cf. Plant, 1362). However, they did appear to circulate well outside their immediate mint location, as evidenced by the fact that the all the French National Library collection specimens were part of a 1944 find near Kelendris in Cilicia - considerably further east from either of these locales. Also unpublished is the denomination; the apparently inferior metal (along with bit peculiar style for both dies) may also indicate an unofficial issue, though such a drop in weight from the nominal obol standard (ca 0.8 g) is still puzzling.
