A popular and historically important type. The first half of Verus' carrier as co-emperor with Marcus Aurelius was spent campaigning in the East, mostly against Parthians. Great military victories achieved in the process attest to the effectiveness of the Roman state and military machine during its 2nd c. AD heyday, even though Verus himself had apparently little to practically do with it. However, he was quick to take credit, and this coin boldly advertises the key Roman achievement of 164 AD - the sacking of a Parthian-installed ruler and subsequent securing of Armenia - with the Armenia reverse and the sole title "Armeniacus" spelled out in full after Verus' name. Very nice reverse, and outstanding obverse, with sharp high-relief portrait and bold full legend.
