Interesting architectural type, issued by a moneyer related to an eponymous consul of the same year. The coin refers to the good deeds of another ancestor of theirs, Ancus Marcius (portrayed on obverse), with the reverse specifically remembering the public works of fixing the water supply ("Aqua Marcia") by building an aqueduct. The project was driven by Q. Marcius Rex, who was commissioned by the Senate in 144 BC to repair aging water supplies, and in honor od this public service an equestrian statue of his was erected on the aqueduct, as evidenced in the reverse.
