The present moneyer, Decimius Junius Brutus (who later adopted also the name of Postumius Albinus) was a colorful character from the Imperatorial era, whose activity went well beyond just money minting. He was an early supporter of Caesar, and served on his staff in Gaul starting 56 BC, commanded armies for a number of years thereafter and distinguished himself by victories over the Veneti, Bellovaci and in the siege of Massalia. Yet, he joined his more famous namesake and other republican conspirators on the Ides of March. Over the next year, caught in the politics leading up to the Second Triumvirate, he mostly battled with Mark Antony over Gaul, but eventually lost both that struggle and his life in 43 BC.
