Superb portrait of innocent-looking 13 year-old Caracalla, long before he got that nickname. In general, his coinage is probably the last example of great Roman portraiture, and it also remarkably traces his aging from boy to man. The reverse refers to the victories achieved by his father over the Parthians a couple of years prior (198 AD) and secured by the treaty of the following year.
