Rare appearance on coinage of Messalina, Claudius' third wife and mother of Octavia and Britannicus. Despite the idyllic reverse scene, she was apparently known for promiscuity, which ultimately led to her demise and execution in 48 AD. Both her children were eventually victims of the vile Nero, even though Octavia was one of his wives...
