The last independent prince of the once powerful Tver principality, by tradition the 18th generation from Russia's founder Ryurik. Despite the feudalization of late medieval Russia - which Moscow took upon itself to alleviate - the sense of common ancestry remained, as most princes traced their lineage to the semi-legendary father af ancient Rus'. Ivan III's 1485 move on Tver was intimidating, and Mikhail fled to the West, thus making its annexation a bloodless affair. Additionally, a rare and charming reverse representation.
