Another scarce copper with an elusive early (and rather decent for these) depiction of what will much later be a standard device on Imperial Russian coinage - the double-headed eagle. Descended from the final Byzantine Palaiologos dynasty, it become an important symbol of Russia's claim to imperial continuity as the "Third Rome". Again notable here - the subtle change in reverse legend after the establishment of Moscow's suzerainty (1456), with the city no longer bearing the epithet "Great".
